Educate Maine and the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance are excited to announce that applications for
Code.org's Professional Learning Program are now open. If your school is looking to offer Code.org's computer science (CS) courses at the middle or high school level in 2023-24, please encourage interested teachers to
apply today.
Code.org's Professional Learning Program is an intensive, year-long professional learning program for middle and high school educators who are interested in teaching Code.org's
CS Discoveries (middle school),
CS Principles (high school) or Computer Science A (high school) courses. These programs are designed to prepare educators to provide high-quality CS instruction with engaging curriculum and tools to students in their classrooms.
Teachers who apply and are accepted to the program commit to:
- Attending a five-day, in-person local summer workshop (in Maine at UNE July 24th-28th, 2023)
- Attending four local one-day, in-person workshops between October and April (Saturdays)
- Teaching the course during the 2023-24 school year
- Supporting the recruitment and enrollment of a diverse group of students in the course, representative of the school's overall student population
Applications open on November 29th and will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Full scholarships are available to teachers from schools with a free and reduced lunch rate of 50% or more. Teachers from rural Maine schools may also qualify for a scholarship. If you would like to know if you are eligible for a scholarship, please contact Angela.
