Are you considering a summer internship in the Portland area, but you live too far away to commute?
Starting this summer, interns not affiliated with the University of Southern Maine will have the option to stay in suites at USM's Upperclass Hall on the Gorham campus between May 12 and August 15. A limited number of rooms are now available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Each suite, for two students, has a common living room/kitchenette with a couch and a chair, two Microfridge units with fridge, freezer, and microwave and a countertop and cabinets with sink. Each bedroom (one for each student) has two twin beds, a dresser, closet, desk, and desk chair.
Also included are air conditioning, high speed internet, cable TV, electricity and hot water. The hall has a rec room, recycling rooms, meeting spaces, a nice back patio, common kitchen, and music practice rooms.
The dining hall is open in the summer on a limited basis, based on the summer camp and athletics schedule. Interns can purchase block meals or meal plan dollars from Dining Services or to pay cash or credit to go through the line. There are restaurants and a Hannaford supermarket within walking distance.
The housing rate is $1,120.00 month, $280.00 a week, or $40.00 a night if someone is staying an odd number of days. The charge is payable in full at or before check in. USM will accept money orders, bank checks, or cash, but cannot take credit cards.
Only a limited number of housing spaces are available. Interns should contact Shannon Rooney at srooney@usm.maine.edu or (207) 780-5240 for a guest housing application.
