Teacher Trainer invites you to 4D CS professional development
May 17, 2023
Hello!
My name is Jamee Luce, and I currently teach Computer Science at Waterville High School. I lead the Professional Development experience with the Center for Curriculum Redesign. Through a generous grant from the Alfond Foundation, this professional development is offered free to teachers from Maine. The curriculum that will be used is also free for Maine teachers to use with their students.
The professional development opportunities available this spring/summer are intended for any teacher who has an interest in Computer Science content. The first cohort will be offered starting the first week of June and finishing during the first or second week of July, depending on the cohort's schedule around the 4th of July holiday. This cohort will include BOTH our level 1 and level 2 courses with each participant selecting the level at which they will participate. The topics covered will be:
Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
Cybersecurity and Internet Safety
Programming (CoffeeScript/Pencil Code or Python)
Mobile App Development with App Inventor
Web Design or 3D Modeling using Autodesk Maya
Game Design (Scratch or Unreal Engine)
The professional development is experienced through synchronous and asynchronous learning. Each week, a module will be assigned that will include watching videos, learning material, practicing concepts, understanding core concepts, implementing competencies, thinking about teaching strategies, and answering reflective questions. In addition, each week we'll hold a live sync session that typically lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours. You'll get the most out of the course if you can attend all the sessions at the time they're scheduled, but the sessions will also be recorded for those who have a conflict.
For those of you who are interested in teaching our Unreal Engine Game Design 1 course, you can continue on to that course in mid July. This course will have a similar experience with weekly modules and sync sessions.
As a start, please complete this survey about when you have availability for a sync session, as well as what you would like to be prepared for at the end of the cohort:
I look forward to working with you through this process! Together, we will explore how to incorporate Computer Science topics into your school! If you have any questions or concerns about this professional development, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
Thanks!
Jamee
