Code.org Professional Learning Program now taking applications for middle and high school teachers
November 18, 2019
Applications are now open!
Educate Maine and Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance are excited to announce that applications for Code.org’s Professional Learning Program are now open. If your school is looking to offer Code.org’s computer science (CS) courses at the middle or high school level in 2020-21, please encourage interested teachers to apply today.
Code.org’s Professional Learning Program is an intensive, year-long professional learning program for middle and high school educators who are interested in teaching Code.org’s CS Discoveries (middle school) or CS Principles (high school) courses. These programs are designed to prepare educators to provide high-quality CS instruction with engaging curriculum and tools to students in their classrooms.
Teachers who apply and are accepted to the program commit to:
- Attending a four-day, in-person local summer workshop (in Maine June 29-July 2, 2020)
- Attending four local one-day, in-person workshops between October and April (Saturdays)
- Teaching the course during the 2020-21 school year
- Supporting the recruitment and enrollment of a diverse group of students in the course, representative of the school’s overall student population
Applications opened on November 18 and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. For more information and to apply, visit the Professional Learning page for CS Discoveries or CS Principles.
Program information:
- Full scholarships are available to teachers from schools with a free and reduced lunch rate of 50% or more. Teachers from rural ME schools may also qualify for a scholarship.
- For Maine teachers, the cost of the CS Discoveries or CS Principles program is only $1,500 per teacher. That’s 60% off the national cost thanks to generous support from Code.org.
- The program fee covers your teaching materials, workshop supplies, 8 days of professional development, a dorm room during the 4-day summer institute, and all meals during workshops.
- Additional travel costs are not covered.
- The curriculum, online student learning platform, and access to support from the teacher and code.org community are all provided free of charge.
